Movie Reviews

The Mexican
Starring:  Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts
Rated:  R
Length:  2 hrs, 3 mins

Review:   The Mexican started off pretty boring and kept being fairly boring until bam, there was a tangled knot of plot, which was difficult to comprehend.  There were some funny scenes, so it was still enjoyable for those who do not want to understand what the whole picture is.  The gay guy is a little messed up, he seems like a significant character, but then slowly, yet then suddenly dies and does nothing to affect the outcome of the movie.  Its not easy to tell if it is supposed to be some kind of spoof or not, because of the flashback pistol stories.  The seem kind of stupid, but funny.  It was hard to believe the plot, so you can't connect to the movie to really enjoy it.  The characters didn't have much background, so you couldn't totally identify with them.  I give it a three out of five.

Scanners:  The Showdown
Starring:  Patrick Kilpatrick, Daniel Quinn, Khrystyne Haje, Steve Barnett
Director:  Steve Barnett
Rating:  R
Released:  1994
Genre:  Horror/Suspense

Review:  I absent mindedly rented this movie before watching any of the others in the Scanners series, so I will have to watch those before I can give a proper review.  But the film seemed pretty intense and heart pumping, although it was kind of an odd concept to grasp.  It kind of drug on, doing the same thing time after time, scanning, scanning, scanning.  The bubbling, popping, pussing skin was pretty horrific, but again, they showed the same thing over and over.  It had a definite protagonistic and antagonistic character, both doing their deeds with the same power.   I give it a 4 out of five, maybe I am overrating it, but I don't give a shit.
